Over the course of my 35+ year career, I have come to discover that organizations become entrenched, and frequently need a new team player with a different perspective. My fundamental belief is that Engineering Management is based on the “Risk Manager” role. This belief is appropriately expanded to encompass all management fields. We are the builders that say what can be done, not those that reject ideas out of hand. To borrow a phrase, “There are always options”, we just need to understand the incremental and subsequent cumulative risk we are accepting.
My strong adherence to professional practice, the acceptance / understanding of accountability and responsibility, have been the foundations of my professional career. I recognize that success and leadership in the engineering field are predicated on appreciating and improving the value of the team to the corporation. Direct application of a Management Plan for Professional Practice, a strong focus on engineering fundamentals, and appropriate project management skills are all requisite to successful and profitable engineering.
Frankly, I admit that a large measure of my success in completing the tasks assigned to me has been through the recognition of the individuals on my team whom I have encouraged and supported to work as a cohesive unit. Critical to their success, and mine by association, has been the understanding of clearly articulated shared expectations, identification of Key Targets and appropriate stewardship.
Over the course of my 25 year career, I have become a highly adaptable individual whose focus is to provide specialized technical documentation support for clients and projects.

Who is a Technical Document Specialist, a Project Coordinator, and an Administrative Assistant all combined into one?
I am the employee at work that everyone knows, the “go-to guy” to get the impossible done. If you have an impossible deadline, I’m the person you need.
I possess a very diverse employment and educational background, consisting of eight (8) years' experience in a senior administrative capacity. I am a highly adaptable individual whose focus is to provide specialized proposal development and project coordination support to a variety of project managers as directed. I also specialize in the editorial review of technical documentation.
My career began with the emergency services in Australia as an ambulance and training officer for eleven (11) years. After my departure from the emergency services, I assumed the role of assistant supervisor for almost four (4) years where I was responsible for thirty (30) employees with duties ranging from training, scheduling work shifts, and quality control. I operated an entrepreneurial venture for over three (3) years and an independent contractor where I was negotiating with and providing contracting services to clients.
After immigrating to Canada, I eventually began an appointment with Syncrude Canada Ltd. as a Senior Administrative Assistant and Technical Writer, providing administrative support to the Area Leader of Central Technical Services, the Department Manager of Site Engineering Services, and the Vice-President of Technical Engineering Services. I also coordinated and collaborated with standard owners for the development and continual improvement of Syncrude’s Engineering Standards program, performing editorial reviews of all engineering standards prior to publication and leading it to successful completion for five (5) consecutive years.
I measure personal success by how much support my colleague’s request. I have heard the expression “The reward for good work is more work”, this is true as I am usually asked to provide additional support for teams to keep their projects and tasks on track.
I seek to add value to any situation, with consideration to Management of Change and Risk Management principles, I offer counsel to allow others to make more informed decisions.
